What We Believe
Our Beliefs
The best way to crystallize our beliefs is to use what we refer to as the Four C’s.
Creation, Corruption, Christ, Re-Creation.
The Good News of Jesus Christ unfolds throughout the Bible in these four categories and in each of them the grace of God is freely given. We connect to them through faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.
Creation
Our beliefs begin with a commitment to the God of Creation. We believe that God created the universe for his pleasure, and he created it good, very good. He created everything to work and live in symbiotic relationships, in peace and beauty. It is a true paradise. Then he created his crowning jewel, man. Man was created in God’s image, to rule this beautiful creation as God’s representation, kind of like a vice president. Adam was created to protect and tend to the garden, as well as personally walk with God. Adam and Eve were created to live in a beautiful land, with great purpose in the presence of God. Adam and Eve glorified and enjoyed God in and with perfection.
We believe that the gospel begins with understanding God’s intentions for humanity and creation as a means of revealing who He is and where He wants us to go.
Corruption
We believe that as a result of Adam’s first sin all creation has become corrupt.
Adam enthroned himself above God when he ate of the fruit of the tree in the garden. Not only did this bring all humanity into a state of sin and misery but put a curse on the entire universe. The peace and harmony of creation was disturbed as death, murder, thorns, sorrow, exile, drought, pestilence, natural disaster, sickness, deception become the normal experience for creation. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about God, in His grace, not leaving His people. In Genesis 3:15, God gives a great promise of restoration from corruption through the seed of the woman (Jesus). After the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the garden, all creation is now in a position of waiting, yearning, and hoping for the Savior to release them from the curse. We believe the gospel is understood only as we understand the corruption of our own hearts and all creation.
Christ (in creation)
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Messiah, the anointed one, who by his perfect life, sacrificial death and resurrection from the dead has secured salvation for His people and future recreation of the world.
We agree with the John the baptizer, when he introduces Jesus as the “lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” As the work of Christ is applied to people by the Holy Spirit, His people respond with faith Jesus Christ. As we conform our lives to Christ, we seek to glorify Him through expressing faith, hope, and love to all areas of our homes, communities and world.
Re-Creation
We believe that the good news of Jesus Christ is found in his promise of the resurrection of all things.
We believe that the great unfolding of redemption through the finished work of Christ will be completed when He returns and resurrects His people to live with Him in a perfect re-created world. A world that is without natural disaster, sickness, and corruption, where we live as we were intended, at peace with God, others and all nature to His glory. The Bible describes it as the new heavens and new earth. As the church, we work to bring this, although not completely now, in glimpses through works of mercy, justice and faithfulness. We long for the day when it is complete and eternal.
Why we exist?
Pine Ridge exists for the soul purpose of glorifying Jesus Christ. We hope to accomplish this through leading people in right thinking, right living, and right feelings. We believe and teach the Bible as God’s revelation and seek to align our thoughts to His thoughts. We believe and cultivate a community that produces the fruits of the spirit through intertwined relationships of service and love. We believe and desire that the community of faith is a safe place for messed up people as they mature in the faith.
Ultimately we exist to bring people into a relationship with Jesus Christ that brings restoration to all areas of life.
